Open again from April 12th
Welcome to Secret’SUP, a unique paddle boarding facility set from a private garden on the River Bure in Coltishall.
We provide lessons to beginners and novices and board hire to those with some paddling experience on weekdays; our full schedule is listed below.
Our lessons are as much about the experience as they are the learning, and whilst you’re practicing your paddling, you’ll often be treated to a kingfisher fly-by and some great ‘paddle chat’ as the group gels together. Many guests soon realise that this is more than just the paddle boarding; it’s a real one-off experience on a fabulous stretch of river.
Our kit is new each season, and this year we’re treating our guests to the latest Orb and Oxygen boards from Hatha. All boards are supplied with buoyancy aids.
Mondays: Group lesson 10-12; board hire* from 12:45
Tuesdays: Board hire* from 09:15
Wednesdays: Board hire* from 12:45
Thursdays: Group lesson 10-12; board hire* from 12:45
Fridays: Board hire* from 09:15
*Board hire is only available to those with previous paddling experience.
1:1, 1:2 and small private groups of up to 6 are also available by request on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and we even allow the odd evening session where we can.
Please note that we get extremely busy over the spring and summer months so it’s worth booking in early! If we can’t accommodate your request then we will do our best to suggest other options for you.
The minimum age requirement for our lessons is 10 and all minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in a 1:1 ratio.
All guests must be confident swimmers and of a sound fitness to undertake this activity.
Lessons start at £45pp for a slot in our group lesson on Monday and Thursday mornings.
1:1 lesson £75; 1:2 £120 and 1:3+ £45pp respectively.
Board hire: £25/board for up to 2 hours; £35 for up to 4 hours and £50 for a whole day.

My huge smile was due to Sarah’s encouragement and calm competence – she knew exactly where everyone was and how they were doing at all times – thank you!!! – Niki Oct 2020

We would just like to say a huge thank you for a wonderful morning paddle boarding, after a few butterflies before setting off we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Sarah, you were so patient and wonderful company.
...thanks for a fantastic day on Saturday. We all loved it. We had a brilliant time going up the other bit of river (despite the rain) - totally stunning and we all absolutely loved it. Lucky you to have that on your doorstep - it was quite magical… We are all paddle boarding converts - we went canoeing yesterday and all agreed that it wasn’t a patch on paddle boarding!

...just wanted to write to say thank you so much for last night's session. Your kindness and hospitality were so appreciated, and I needed that rest and time to clear my mind so much yesterday. I am very grateful to you all for welcoming us...and making the evening so enjoyable.
...thank you for a fab morning on the river. The talk in the car on the way home was all about the next time! Oh and Richard declaring that he had first dibs on the shower.
Had such a fantastic morning this morning with both Giles and Sarah. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and for helping me try out my new board. I shall definitely see you both again soon.
We had a fantastic afternoon on the water with Sarah! She is a brilliant instructor and made us feel totally at ease. We can’t wait to go back! Highly recommend.
Wonderful afternoon spent on the water with Secret’SUP. Idyllic location away from the bustle and noise - just perfect for taking your first paddle strokes or for experienced SUP’ers wanting to find space and reflection time. Giles and Sarah are consummate hosts and guides: convivial conversation and excellent qualified instruction makes for an enjoyable experience for all. Highly recommend! We’ll be back!
Me and a friend booked a Sunday morning lesson with Secret’SUP to catch up with each other whilst trying something new. It certainly didn’t disappoint! We had an amazing time floating down the Bure, feeling quite smug with ourselves for getting up and out on a Sunday morning! Our instructor was Sarah and she was really lovely and encouraging. She met us on arrival and took us through a short intro about the equipment before heading out on the water. We practiced getting up on the board, paddling and turning before heading down the Bure to Horstead Mill. It is a real whole body workout but you don’t realise you’re exercising: you’re too busy looking at the stunning scenery and having a laugh! If you think it’s a warm weather activity, think again! Despite it being November we were stripping off the layers! We can’t wait to book again - thank you Secret’SUP
I have wanted to have a go at SUP for such a long time and when I discovered that there were lessons in my village, I jumped at the chance! I went a long with a friend and we had the best start to a Sunday morning. Sarah puts you at ease from the get go. Which is great, because sometimes learning new things can be daunting. It was all about relaxing and enjoying the experience whilst sharing techniques to allow you to learn the best ways to meander down the river Bure. If you enjoy the tranquility of the river I would definitely suggest going down and having a go, as it’s a wonderful way to take in the beauty of the river.
The wonderful part of the river we paddled on...the moonlight view..the friendliness of Giles and his wife...the ease of the paddling...the enthusiasm...the location. Thinking about it? Try it!! 😁
We had a fantastic morning with Sarah! I didn't realise that you can SUP in colder weather but with a wetsuit and hat I was very cozy! It's beautiful along the river, we saw swans, otters, heron to mention a few! I felt really calm and relaxed during and after and I think it is a fantastic sport to get some head-space and connect with nature. Sarah's kind and gentle nature makes you feel instantly at ease and her genuine passion for the sport really shines through. Her background as a teacher really shows and I can really see why SUP is fantastic for mental health and wellbeing for children. It was so good I brought my family along for a SUP session a few days later, we had such a laugh and no-one fell in thankfully! Highly recommend!
